2010’s single, “Crown of Bees,” was released with “New Darlings of the Silent Films” as the B-side through the hyper-cool online distributor Candy Dinner. “Crown of Bees” was James’ biggest song yet from a pop rock perspective, and also the first that was recorded live in studio. The song, remixed and remastered, now serves as a centerpiece in James’ 2012 release, New Darlings, which sees yet another large step in the songwriter’s evolution, as James has taken the hushed, beautiful reserve of his previous material and added an urgency that is sure to be welcomed by both the pop-loving public and the experimental folk niche.
